After some serious digging, I found out that the 174 route is considered the worst and possibly the most dangerous route in Seattle Metro.
Thinking I might try to find another route. As I could not find any information of things Metro is doing to make it better.

You almost certainly have better alternatives anyway, with a bit of ingenuity and research. One of the suckiest aspects of Metro is the web interface, because there are almost always route options near your current route that the system never bothers to show you. Depending on where in Federal Way you are, you could catch 166 to Kent Station, and take the Sounder, which, while busy, seldom runs full to capacity.
I am actually in Seatac, and I am now looking at the routes that run from Burien to downtown.
Also looking at other ways to downtown
When using the online trip planner, try breaking the trip down - ie, home to downtown, then downtown to work - instead of doing the whole trip. Also play with your arrival/departure times. That will sometimes help you find more options.
I used to ride that route. I completely understand exactly what you are dealing with.
